All films that we sell on our site are uncut and unrated — direct from the original production company. What needs to be understood is that Pink Eiga are not porno — and therefore, do not have pornographic scenes to be censored.

There is some confusion as to the difference between Pink Eiga and AV productions (aka. Adult Videos or pornos). The primary difference boils down to this: Pink Eiga are short form narrative features that feature sexual situations — however all sex depicted in the films is entirely simulated and is typically in service to the larger narrative.

Furthermore, Japan has very strict Waisetsu (obscenity) laws, which forbids the showing of genitals. This means that no penises can be shown on screen and while female pubic hair is permissible, the actual genital area is not.

This is all to say, that filmmakers like The Japanese Wife Next Door’s Yutaka Ikejima (aka. ‘Mr. Pink’) have found ingenious ways of shooting sex scenes that just barely stay on the legal side of things. On our special features for The Japanese Wife Next Door, Director Ikejima speaks at length about his shooting technique and methods used to simulate sex.

This is all to say, that the film is not censored because it was never shot without these ‘workarounds.’ Simply put, Pink Eiga are not porno movies but are short-form, independently produced, erotic movies, that are still shot on 35mm and screened throughout Japan in independent movie theaters.

There is no analog to what we have in the West — these are not soft-core films or ‘Skinemax’ movies. Pink Eiga are designed to entertain the audience with creative and unusual stories, in addition to turning them on. And with a film like The Japanese Wife Next Door, you’re in for a real treat: it’s raunchy, hilarious fun. Well worth your time.
