‘Pink Eiga’ (aka. Pink Film) is a short-form, independently produced, erotic movie popular in Japan. Shot on 35mm film with high production values and artistry, these films run the genre gamut including comedies, romantic dramas, exploitation movies and horror. Until recently, these soft-core films have been virtually unknown outside of Japan, but that’s changing…

The immense popularity of Pink Eiga in Japan is due to its strange, outrageous, and, yes, sometimes even touching storylines. Pink Eiga consistently pushes the boundaries of cultural commentary, giving unique insight into Japanese culture that few outside of the country know.

How many films have been made?

Having been in constant production since the 1960’s, Pink Eiga constitutes one-third of all films produced in Japan each year. Thousands of Pink Eiga titles have been produced over its lifetime with over 80 new Pink Eiga having been produced in 2008 alone that were then released to Pink Eiga movie theaters across Japan.

What are the rules that a Pink Eiga must follow?

Using the Wikipedia definition for Pink Films, famed Japanese film and cultural historian Donald Richie and Pia Harritz define the four fundamental elements that constitute a Pink Eiga:

1. The film must have the requisite number of sex scenes (typically a minimum of five).
2. The film must be approximately one hour in length (perfect for the Pink Eiga triple-bill format).
3. It must be shot on 35 mm film (or occasionally 16mm) in a week and finished within one month.
4. The film must be completed within an extremely limited budget (around $35,000 US).

What do I need to watch a Streaming Rental?

If you buy a Streaming Rental, you can watch the video directly in your web browser via instant streaming. You don’t need any special software or hardware – if you can view the trailer, the film will also play. All Streaming Rentals can also be viewed on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

What connection speed do I need to watch a Streaming Rental?

While watching Streaming Rentals your computer or tablet must be connected to the internet. We recommend high-speed broadband or a high-speed 3G connection for streaming. The video quality will automatically adjust to match your bandwidth, so to get the maximum resolution video, you should use the fastest connection available to you.

Can I pause my Streaming Rental and come back to watch later?

Yes, if you get interrupted and want to resume later, you can pause and resume the film up to 4 times after you start watching, as long as you finish within 30 days. When you pay you will be sent a password to log in and resume viewing later. Each time you start watching the film you have 3 hours, so if you pause and leave the browser open, after 3 hours the player will automatically reload so you can access the film again.

Can I resume my Streaming Rental from a different device?

Yes, you can log in to any other device to resume within your rental period.

When will my Streaming Rental expire?

Your rental will expire after 30 days, after you’ve resumed viewing the fifth time, or once you have finished watching the film, whichever happens first.

Download-to-Own Products

What does Download-to-Own mean?

If you buy a Download-to-Own video, you will be receive a link to download the file to your computer. The video is in MPEG4 format which will play back on most computers, as well as portable devices like iPad and iPhone. If your computer does not have a video player installed (Windows Media Player or QuickTime player are usually installed by default), you can download the free VLC player to play our videos.

What if I lose my connection during Download? Can I try again?

Yes, if your download fails, you can log in with the password we emailed you and try a second time.

Can I give a copy of my Download to a friend?

No, the Download you purchase is only for your personal use. If you want to share the film with a friend, you need to share a link to the film’s website using the Share or Embed tools in the online video-player. Unlawful sharing of the Downloaded file is a violation of Copyright Law, which is a criminal offence.

What if I have some other technical problem? How do I contact you for help?

If for any reason you are unable to access the file, we will first attempt to solve your problem, however, if you still cannot access the file for any reason, we will cancel the order and give you a full refund.

Domestic Shipping

The cost is $4 per disc, domestically. Please note that Guam is considered international shipping (we’re sorry for the inconvenience).

We happily ship to American Military installations outside the U.S. and consider it domestic shipping. All orders are shipped by USPS  (delivery times vary and take from 3 to 7 days).

Domestic Return Policy

First, we request that you play the disc in question on at least TWO OTHER DVD PLAYERS to ensure the problem is not player specific. In short, the burden of proof is on you.

Please note, due to the nature of shipping, DVD discs may come loose within their cases during transit, resulting in surface scratches. Fortunately, these scratches rarely result in playback errors. However, if you find playback errors are occurring try to clean or even lightly polish the disc to see if this remedies the problem. If the above fails, please e-mail us at “info@pinkeiga.com” with “DVD return request” listed in the subject line. Include your name, the purchase date and title of the DVD as well as the details of the problem. Then, please return the DVD to the following address:
